Ivan & Sharon Roney Named Owner of Punta Gorda Tide as PicklePlex© Hosts AFPL Season 3 Opening Stop

Punta Gorda, Florida — All Florida Pro League is proud to announce Ivan Roney as the owner of the Punta Gorda Tide, the newest team in the All Florida Pro League. The Punta Gorda Tide will officially replace the Fort Myers Flamingos, marking a new chapter for professional pickleball in Southwest Florida. With PicklePlex© as the team’s home courts, the Tide will help establish Punta Gorda as an important destination for competitive and community-driven pickleball.

A respected business leader, Roney is the founder of Farfield Systems, a company he launched in 2002 and grew from a single customer in Maryland to serving customers across five states and the District of Columbia. In 2016, he established the company’s Sarasota, Florida office, further expanding its reach and presence in the state. Farfield’s growth also included the 2011 spinout of a Product and PM/Logistics company that has secured several prime contracts.

Prior to his business career, he served 13 years in the United States Marine Corps as a Cryptologic Linguist. Today, Roney continues to lead with the same discipline, long-term vision, and commitment to excellence that have defined his career.

Roney’s leadership is also rooted in family. Alongside his wife, Sharon Roney, and daughter, Alena, Farfield Systems reflects the values of a family-owned and operated business based in Punta Gorda. That same commitment to community, growth, and opportunity now extends into pickleball through his ownership of the Punta Gorda Tide.

Roney’s vision is to make Punta Gorda a marquee destination for players of all levels, a place where athletes, families, and fans can enjoy the area while competing in and experiencing major pickleball events.

Quote from Ivan Roney:

Sharon and I are excited to bring professional pickleball to such a great community. The PicklePlex©, in partnership with Florida SouthWestern State College, has created something truly special here in Punta Gorda, and I couldn’t think of a better home for the Tide. This is about more than a team — it’s about helping position the area as a destination for pickleball while creating opportunities for players, families, and the broader community.

PicklePlex©, where Roney serves on the finance committee, will be the home of the Punta Gorda Tide and will host the first stop of Season 3 of the All Florida Pro League on May 9. The event will also feature an amateur minor league competition running alongside the pro league action, creating an exciting opportunity for both rising and established players to compete in one of Florida’s premier pickleball environments.

Quote from Chris Crouch, who leads the efforts of PB Pro Leagues:

I’m extremely excited to welcome Ivan and Sharon to the All Florida Pro League and to see them lead the Punta Gorda Tide. I met them at Pickleplex© earlier this year, and it was immediately clear how much passion they have for both the sport and the community. Pickleplex© has always been special to us, it hosted our first-ever AFPL stop, so it’s incredible to now have it as the home of one of our teams. Season 3 is going to be a blast, and I can’t wait to see the Punta Gorda Tide take the court in their new jerseys.

With Ivan Roney leading the Punta Gorda Tide, All Florida Pro Leagues continues to strengthen its mission of building a competitive, community-driven pathway for the future of the sport.

The All Florida Pro League is part of the pickleball pro league system and is designed to develop the next wave of professional pickleball players. In addition to offering high-level competition, the league helps athletes grow beyond the court through community events, sponsorship opportunities, and local engagement.
